Its function is to welcome and care for wounded wild birds. A unique structure in the Bouches-du-Rhône department.

The space is composed of a welcome office, an infirmary, care and rehabilitation aviaries, and more spacious aviaries for longer convalescent stays.

It is located in the center of the Park and in not open to the public, in accordance with the law.

Roughly 600 birds are taken in yearly. The length of their stay stems from a few days to several months depending on how badly they have been hurt. Each year, the center’s highest peak of activity is between May and August, which corresponds to the reproductive period, a time when many baby birds, fallen from their nests, are gathered by private individuals and brought to Pont de Gau. The association’s team of nurses then finish their breeding and send them back into nature.

About 40% of the wounded birds are sent back into nature after being nursed!

This structure is up and running thanks to the help of the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region, the Bouche-du-Rhône department, the regional administration for environment, land settlement and housing DREAL, the Brigitte Bardot Foundation and the Parc ornithologique de Pont de Gau.

You can contribute to the smooth running of this structure and help us give the best care to the wounded birds by donating to the association called l’Association des Amis du Parc Ornithologique de Pont de Gau.
